What went well?
In the Preliminary Task I found that we all worked well as a team. Coming up with the concept of the piece proved easy, we showed the opening of a door, a character sitting at a seat and an exchange of dialogue fulfilling the brief. The camera angle choices worked incredibly well for our piece setting the tension and mood of the task. Finally after completing the filming we also found that the editing process was at times difficult due to sound and image not quite being in sync however as a whole we worked well in overcoming any previous issues with our piece. Also the choice of music which lies underneath the dialogue, worked in creating the mood that was necessary.
What would you do differently if you did this task again?
If I did this task differently I would shorten parts such as the letter entering the pocket. This is because I found that as a viewer after a few moments, this was boring to watch and the clip should have progressed faster. Also a mistake that was made was not coming in wearing the same clothing items, this meant that after an hour of filming and finishing the first half of our clip we had to start over in the new clothing items. This wasted a lot of time and would have ruined the continuity of the scene had we not started again.
Did you meet the brief?
We did indeed meet the brief - The brief was "Character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character with whom he or she exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue". This task must demonstrate match on action, shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule."
Opening of the door
Exchanging of dialogue
Crossing the room
Was it difficult/easy?
As a group we found the task easy, each of us had individual difficulties but being in a group these were so easily overcome with the help of each other. Certain things such as location made the project more difficult. For instance the overhead shot in which the character is walking towards the building was difficult to film. This is because we needed a wide open window to shoot from, however the window was very narrow and made it difficult to pan greatly.
What have you learnt?
During this task I learnt how to direct a group appropriately, and also learnt how to use the editing systems. I learnt how to clip and shorten scenes, add music and separate the audio from the footage.
How will this exercise inform your opening title sequence that you will make?
This exercise will influence my OTS sequence greatly. I really liked some of the angles used in our piece so if I do a thriller style OTS I will be using these angles, and also the type of music is likely to be in the OTS.
